Dubai makes cameo appearance in new hollywood film

The Dubai skyline makes a cameo appearance in the new teaser trailer for the environmental disaster flick Geostorm, starring Gerard Butler.

Dubai joins other popular cities including Mumbai, Moscow, Rio and Hong Kong in being battered by freak weather as the Burj Khalifa and Dubai International Finance Centre are tormented by what appears to be a huge tsunami sweeping ashore from the Arabian Gulf.

“Tomorrow, the world is taken by storm,” reads the title of the video, which was released on Tuesday.

The action thriller is about a guy attempting to prevent climate-controlling satellites from unleashing a “storm of epic proportions” that could decimate the earth. The movie itself has faced its fair share of bad weather. Geostorm was originally slated for an October 2016 release, but poor reactions from test screenings saw the production company bring in a new director in the shape of Judge Dredd and Gotham’s Danny Cannon, for extensive reshoots, believed to have cost around USD 15 million (Dhs 60 million).

It’s not the first time the UAE makes a cameo in blockbuster movies. Among the films that showcase the UAE include Fast and Furious 7, which features Emirates Palace, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol which features Tom Cruise's Burj Khalifa stunt, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
