  • Connector Publishing is founded, releasing the first issue of Connector Magazine to the population of Dubai.
  • Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club opens.
  • Juma al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage is established.
1992
  • Dubai International Airport handles 5.7 million passengers a year.
  • Majid Al Futtaim Group is headquartered in Dubai.
1993
  • Dubai population is 610,926.
1994
  • Construction of Burj Al Arab begins.
1995
  • Emirates Airlines celebrates 10 years.
  • American University in Dubai is established.
1996
  • The first Dubai Shopping Festival commences.
  • Dubai World Cup horse race, the world's richest, begins.
1997
  • The Jumeirah Group sets up its headquarters in Dubai.
  • World's first camel-llama cross-breeding accomplished.
1998
  • The first Dubai Summer Surprises is launched.
1999
  • Burj Al Arab opens its doors to the public.
2000
  • Dubai population grows to 862,387 (71% male, 29% female).
  • Dubai Financial Market is founded.
  • Dubai Internet City opens.
2001
  • Palm Jumeirah construction begins.
 
2002
  • The freehold property market opens up to expatriates.
  • Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve and eco-resort Al Maha founded.
2003
  • Dubai Knowledge Village opens.
  • The first Dubai Tennis Championships takes place.
2004
  • Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan dies and is succeeded by his son as ruler of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
  • Dubai Autodrome opens.
  • Dubai International Film Festival opens its first season.
2005
  • Work commences on the Dubai Metro.
  • Mall of the Emirates and Ski Dubai open to the public.
  • Dubai Road and Transport Authority is formed.
2006
  • Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum dies and is succeeded by his brother as Prime Minister of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
  • Women-only pink taxis go into service.
  • Dubai's education regulator, the Knowledge and Human Development Agency (KHDA) is founded.
2007
  • The first residents move on to Palm Jumeirah, now the world's largest offshore residential development.
  • Dubai Cares charity is founded.
  • Dubai's Floating Bridge opens.
2008
  • Atlantis, The Palm opens its doors to the public.
2009
  • The Dubai Metro is launched, making it the first urban. train network in the Arabian Peninsula.
2010
  • The tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa, opens.
  • Al Maktoum International Airport begins operations.
2011
  • The UAE celebrates its 40th National Day, marking four decades of independence from British colonial rule.
  • Green line on Dubai Metro begins operating.
2012
  • Dubai Modern Art Museum & Opera House District projects are announced.
2013
  • Dubai wins the bid for Expo 2020.
2014
  • World's largest mall and indoor theme park, the 48 million square foot Mall of the World project is announced.
  • The establishment of the UAE Space Agency and the launch of a Mars mission is announced.
  • Opera Grand, the first tower in the Dubai Opera House District, opens.
2015
  • Dubai population grows to 2.5 million.
  • Dubai International Airport handles 78 million passengers a year.
