11 throwbacks of Dubai that you'd probably forgotten about

The UAE has come leaps and bounds in a miraculously short amount of time. In less than 50 years, the UAE has gone from abras to Aston Martins and desert to decadent. Many of us have been lucky to call the city of Dubai our home and if you've been here a while, there's possibly quite a few things about way-back-when that you've forgotten about!

In honour of the UAE National Day, we're taking a look back on where our magnificent city started.

1.  When the police fleet was slightly less glamorous than Bugattis and Ferraris...

2. When the DNATA building looked like this

3. When the World Trade Centre was kind of, well, lonely

4. When a trip to the cinema was a day out and not a pit-stop in Dubai Mall or Mall of the Emirates

5. When you used to call people on your iPhone -500s

6. When Jumeirah Beach Hotel was Chicago Beach Hotel

7. When you used to get your family bucket from this 'understated' restaurant

8. When this was the original selfie cam

9. And you had to actually talk to people to have them bring you food

10. When this was where you'd buy your weekly shop

11. And you'd spend an epic weekend of activities here
