It’s time to relax, chill out and unwind. Tucked in the heart of JLT, Couqley is serving a French-style Apero Menu for its Happy Hour, offered daily from 4 to 8pm, seven days a week. Summer showcase
Tashkeel’s annual summer showcase is open now, displaying works by its members, workshop participants and recent exhibiting artists. Founded in 2008 by Lateefa bint Maktoum, the contemporary art organisation facilitates art and design practice, experimentation and cross-cultural dialogue through exhibitions, workshops, artists’ residencies and international fellowships.
Featuring work by more than 30 participants, the exhibition will encompass artwork utilising a wide variety of media, including printmaking, calligraphy, riso prints, stencils, textiles, jewellery, photography, posters, paintings, collages and drawings. www.tashkeel.org

Can you write your way to stardom?
Young writers and poets in the UAE have a new chance to unleash their creative talents as the annual Emirates Airline Festival of Literature student writing competitions are open now. The Oxford University Press Story Writing Competition and Taaleem Award for poetry have become integral additions to the academic calendar, with the number of participants growing every year.
The competitions allow all students, between the ages of 8 to 25 years, resident in the UAE, to hone their creative writing skills in Arabic and English. Entries for the competitions are now open to individuals as well as through participating schools, colleges and universities. Wanna read?
Gap and Al Tayer have joined forces with “Wanna Read?” to help bring the joy of reading to children in hospitals across the United Arab Emirates. “Wanna Read?” is a non-profit initiative led by Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan. Established in 2013, it encourages healing through reading in hospitals across the country. During the Holy Month of Ramadan, customers who visit any Gap store in the UAE may participate by donating money for “Wanna Read?” to purchase books and further build their libraries. In addition to collecting funds to help stock the libraries, Gap will host story telling in several of its stores in support of the initiative.
