The life of a 40-year-old Filipina expat changed overnight after winning the 117th Super Saturday Draw by Mahzooz, making her the first jackpot winner of 2023.
Arlene, an Abu Dhabi resident of 12 years, won a whopping Dhs 10 million, by selecting numbers with her husband that held meaning to them in their personal and family's lives.
The freelance sales promoter and her husband, who is a merchandiser, are the only two people providing for their families.
As a freelancer, Arlene has no fixed income, and the draw will help provide financial security, with the aims to build houses for their families and donate a portion to charity.
Arlene said, "I have not been able to sleep for two days after hearing my husband tell me about the email, I got from Mahzooz informing me of my win. I only had Dhs 17 in my bank account and my husband went out and deposited an additional Dhs 20 into my account so that I could purchase the last week’s bottle of water for Dhs 35. Even when my husband selected the numbers as he always does, I was only hoping to win the Dhs 100,000, but I was shocked when I saw the email stating I won the Dhs 10,000,000 grand prize."
At the Saturday draw 1,345 participants won a total of Dhs 11,756,050.
In 2 years since the launch of Mahzooz, over Dhs 370 million has been given out as prize money, of which over Dhs 62 million has been won by Filipino expats.
