A Dubai school has mde a pledge to eliminate all single-use plastic by the end of his year.
Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai (RGSGD) has made the pledge in line with the recent announcement that single-use plastic bags will be banned for January 2024 across the UAE, followed by the ban on the use of all single-use plastic products from January 2026.
The move to ban the use of single-use plastics was driven by students and announced during RGSGD's Eco-Week, an annual event where student learn more about sustainability through activities, learning experiences and school trips.
RGSGD has teamed up with local sustainable packaging company AVANI, to help in replacing single-use plastic products with alternative sustainable products.
The school is constantly looking for it's building to be become more sustainable, including installing water filters around the school to reduce plastic water waste and adding recycling bins in all classrooms. Energy and water consumption is also displayed on a monthly basis on a data board which pupils monitor, and pupils will be encouraged to plant trees to support the save the ghaf tree foundation. At the end of this year RGSGD will also host a recycled art exhibition.
