Seasonal Ban On Fishing

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) has announced a trade ban and annual fishing on sharks and rays.

The ban will run till 30 June.

The ban helps in minimising the issue of overfishing and habitat degradation.

Additionally, it will help in ensuring the preservation of marine life among sharks and rays.

Under the resolution, fishermen are allowed to use permitted shark fishing gear, and run registered to lynch boats to fish sharks from 1 July till the last day of February, the following year.

Import and re-export of shark fins in fresh, frozen, dried, salted, smoked, canned, or in any other form, excluding fins that are imported for scientific purposes, are subject to the approval of the Ministry.
