Abu Dhabi Gets Toll Gates

Road toll gates will be active in the UAE capital city Abu Dhabi from 15 October 2019, as confirmed by senior officials at the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (DoT).

Four toll gates have been installed at Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, Mussafah Bridge and Al Maqta'a Bridge. Motorists will be charged Dhs 4 each toll for passing through them during peak hours (7am to 9am and 5pm to 7pm) between Saturday and Thursday, and Dhs 2 during non-peak hours during the week, on Friday and on public holidays.

The maximum toll fees has been capped at Dhs 16 per day.

Motorists are not required to stick a tag on the windshield as the amount due will be automatically deducted from a prepaid user account identifying their plate number.

DoT has also listed fines for breaking laws at the newly installed toll gates. It includes the following:

Non-registered vehicles passing through the gates will be fined after the grace period of ten working days. Motorists will be fined Dhs 100 on the first day (after grace period), Dhs 200 on the second day, Dhs 400 on third day and so on. The fine is capped at Dhs 10,000.

Vehicles registered outside Abu Dhabi with insufficient ‘Salik’ balance will be fined Dhs 50 per day after the grace period of 10 business days.

Causing damage to the toll gates, or any e-payment machines, or tampering with vehicle license plate to avoid paying the toll will result in a fine of Dhs 10,000 for each offence.
