It is International Plastic Bag Free Day 2019 today and popular UAE hypermarket Carrefour is doing its bit to spread the word on reducing the use of plastic.
Every customer who brings their own reusable shopping bag at any of the 31 Carrefour hypermarkets across the country, will be rewarded with an organic reusable foldable canvas bag or juco bag, which the hypermarket retails at Dhs 9.50 and Dhs 10 respectively. Customers who use reusable bags can take advantage of and use counters dedicated to those who care for environment.
Additionally, at its Mall of the Emirates store, customers who purchase a reusable foldable canvas bag can get their name or initials printed on the bag for free.
Philippe Peguilhan, Country Manager at Carrefour UAE at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said: “Sustainability is at the heart of what we do at both Carrefour and Majid Al Futtaim, and we are setting ourselves ambitious targets to reduce single-use plastic usage. We aim to inspire customers through our initiatives to contribute to a greener earth while we continue to create great moments for everyone everyday.”
The hypermarket sells three types of reusable bag: a woven plastic bag retailed at Dhs 2.50, a canvas foldable bag, retailed at Dhs 9.50 and a heavy-duty juco bag retailed at Dhs 10.
