Sheikh Mohammed To Pay For All Medical Bills Of Injured British Teacher

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has confirmed to pay for all medical bills of a British expat teacher who met with a serious accident while riding a horse.

Rebecca Chisholm, 24, was riding a horse on 10 May when the horse bolted suddenly, throwing her off and leaving her with serious multiple injuries in the brain.

She was transported to the government-run Rashid Hospital.

As her Dubai medical insurance company does not cover accidents taken place during sporting activities, the injured teacher's friends and family in the UK had been raising money to pay her medical bills, with donations exceeding Dhs 279,000.

However, when His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was informed about the incident, and family's inability to pay the medical bills, the Dubai Ruler directed the authorities to take care of the young lady.

A statement from the Ruler's office said. “His Highness directed authorities to take care of the young lady, after being informed about her family’s inability to cover the medical bill.”

The money originally raised by the family will now be used in booking a specialised flight back to the UK and paying for Rebecca’s recovery.
