Motorists Are Warned: Carpooling Is Illegal

Abu Dhabi Police took to their Instagram account to remind motorists that carpooling is illegal. In just the first 6 months of this year, over 2,000 people were fined in Abu Dhabi for disobeying the carpooling law. The offence is punishable in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi with 24 black points, a fine of Dhs 3,000 and vehicle impoundment for 30 days.

The law is designed to protect people from being subject to dangerous situations.

Brigadier Ibrahim Sultan Al Zaabi, director of the transport security department said, “There are a number of threats associated with using an unlicensed taxi, which include sexual harassment, theft, fraud, quarrels, and the driver may also be in violation of residency laws."
