The UAE Cabinet approved a new law on Sunday that would allow expatriate retirees over the age of 55 to secure a five year retirement visa, if specific conditions are met. The new law will come in effect in 2019.

To apply for this new long-term retirement visa, applicants should have an investment in a property worth Dhs 2 million, or have financial savings of at least of Dhs 1 million, or should have an active income of at least Dhs 20,000 per month. The visa issued will be automatically renewed as long as these conditions are met.

Details were set out following a meeting of the UAE Cabinet chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
