As Abu Dhabi takes away the 20kmh speed buffer on roads from today, 12 August, speeding fines are said to be reduced by half to Dhs 300 from Dhs 600.
According to the authorities, the reduction in fines will soften the blow for motorists caught driving above the speed limit.
The new reduced fines and the removal of the speed buffer are part of a new system of strict adherence to displayed limits.
Many speed limits will be raised to the top end of the buffer and motorists will face fines if they are caught driving even slightly above the speed limit displayed on the roads, for example, driving at 121kph in a 120kph zone will now get you a speeding ticket in Abu Dhabi.
