Fog takes over UAE: Tips to drive safe!

The mythicising fog that came down on Saturday has taken over parts of UAE and continues to blanket Dubai, Sharjah, and other parts of the country.

The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) released an advisory on Saturday informing residents to expect heavy fog to continue through Sunday and Monday. This unusually ‘white’ Christmas has managed to cancel and delay multiple holiday flights headed in and out of Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports.

Posted at 7:45 am on Sunday the NCM released this satellite image!

The fog continues to blanket the city and drivers are advised to drive with caution with vision restricted to less than 100 meters. Traffic authorities will be issuing warnings to reduce speed and avoid using hazard lights.

If you’re driving, here’s some helpful tips to stay safe through UAE’s intense fog.

Safety driving tips for foggy conditions:

  1. Use fog lights or dipped headlights when visibility drops below 100 meters (about the size of a football pitch)
  2. Don’t use hazard warning lights
  3. Know when to pull over (ie at a gas station) or don’t leave home until it's safer
  4. Slow down and keep your distance
  5. Turn your heater on to keep the windows clear
  6. Don’t be pressured into driving faster – be late, not hurt!

Although it is fair to say, that as disruptive it is, this fog is also gorgeous!
