Dubai International Airport has been branded the world’s busiest airport for international air travel. This September, the airport recorded a 1.7 percent increase in passenger traffic. Since last year, the total amount of passengers has increased by 7.2 percent. But, where are the top destinations for Dubai residents and where are people coming from?
1. London
London Heathrow Airport is number 7th on the list of the busiest airports in the world and is the number one destination for people travelling out of Dubai.
2. Kuwait
Kuwait is a hop, skip and a jump away from Dubai, with a mere 50-minute flight. This makes it the second most popular destination for Dubai residents.
3. Mumbai
Mumbai is the 8th most populated city in the world so it is unsurprising that it is ranked the third most popular destination to travel to. Indian nationals also make up 25 percent of Dubai’s expatriate community!
The top destinations for passengers travelling into Dubai are India with 931,193 passengers, followed by the UK (548,762) and Saudi Arabia (536,187).
