Dubai Municipality has launched a Dhs 112 million project to rebuild and upgrade the supporting walls along the Deira side of Dubai Creek. This initiative aims to improve the effectiveness of the creek's retaining walls, reconstruct damaged sections, and prevent potential flooding during harsh weather, thereby reducing disruptions to commercial traffic.
The project will be carried out in two phases. The first phase focuses on restoring a 2.1km stretch along the Deira side, which will be divided into segments to ensure uninterrupted docking traffic. The second phase will cover a 2.3km length on the Bur Dubai side.
His Excellency Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, stated that the project highlights Dubai Municipality’s commitment to transforming Dubai into a more attractive and innovative city by enhancing various elements and services it offers through the strategic and sustainable development of all coastal facilities and infrastructure in the Emirate. The goal is to solidify Dubai’s position as a global tourism hub and augment its economic and commercial prosperity.
Highlighting the importance of this project, His Excellency Dawoud Al Hajri, added, "The project is set to improve security and safety measures for maritime traffic and commercial operations within Dubai Creek."
Project Duration
Over 14 months, the project will involve replacing and rehabilitating damaged sections of the concrete wall along the 2.1km Deira pier. The depth of the wall will be increased to 8 metres, and its height raised to 3 metres to facilitate the safe docking of ships.
Further Enhancements By Dubai Municipality
Dubai Municipality plans to enhance services and facilities for safe docking and navigation by installing 200 anchors across the dock. Dubai Creek holds significant historical, commercial, and economic importance, serving as a vital maritime channel for over a century. Despite Dubai's extensive development, the Creek remains a key attraction, attracting residents, visitors, and tourists alike. It continues to play a crucial role in trade interactions and tourism, preserving its historical significance while integrating modern projects to meet contemporary needs.
