Until 24 December, the UAE will witness shorter days and longer nights, and this period is called winter solstice, where the Earth's poles reach their maximum tilt away from the sun. According to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomy Society, during this time, nights will be around 13 hours and 28 minutes long.

The winter solstice marks the day with the least daylight, as the sun travels the shortest path through the sky. This results in the longest night of the year. Following this, the days gradually lengthen until the Summer Solstice in June, which is the longest day of the year.
