ERC Inaugrates Housing Project In Syria

WAM

The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has inaugurated the 47-unit housing project in the Latakia Governorate in Syria.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Abdul Hakeem Al Nuaimi, Chargé d'Affairs of the UAE Embassy in Damascus, ERC representatives, and Syrian officials.

The units are prefabricated, where components required to build are pre-made, and then transported and assembled on-site. The housing units use solar power to generate electricity, and can accommodate six people, with each of them consisting of two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom. Phone networks are also included as part of the housing project.

A committee has been formed with representatives of the local development authority, the Latakia Governorate Council, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and other authorities, to select eligible families to receive the housing units.

The initiative by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, is part of humanitarian efforts announced to construct 1,000 houses for people in Syria, that were affected by the earthquakes that took place on 6 February.

Hamoud Al Junaibi, acting ERC Secretary-General, mentioned that the housing project is part of the UAE's efforts to mitigate repercussions of natural disasters and crises on lives in sisterly and friendly countries, and support development and reconstruction in affected areas.
