New rule: US to ban electronic devices on Middle East flights

The United States is poised to ban electronic devices larger than mobile phones such as laptops or cameras on flights from up to a dozen Middle East countries, according to some airlines from the region and media reports.

According to Royal Jordanian airlines, all devices including laptops, tablets, cameras, DVD players and electronic games would need to be checked in under new US government rules coming into force on  Saturday 25th March. Only mobile phones and medical devices needed in flight would be excluded from the ban, in a tweet that was later removed by the airlines. The US Department of Homeland Security said: "We have no comment on potential security precautions, but will provide an update when appropriate."
