Great outdoors: Take the train

The winter months can be the best months in the UAE, so take advantage of them and get the family off the sofa for some outdoor fun.

Any train-mad toddler will be thrilled with a trip on Dubai Metro. Watch your child’s eyes light up as they see the city from a whole new perspective, but make sure you avoid rush hour. Kids below five years ride for free.

Let’s go fly a kite

Anantara Sir Bani Yas Resorts’ Annual Kite Festival takes place from 11am to 5pm on Friday 3rd February. Held on the island’s northern beaches, adjacent to Desert Islands Resort and Spa by Anantara, the action-packed festival promises plenty of family fun, with kite making competitions and an opportunity for budding kite flyers to fine-tune their skills. Once the colourful creations have had their air time, guests can enjoy music, a raffle, beach activities and a complimentary sausage sizzle whilst soaking in the scenic views from the private island. Prizes will be up for grabs and a limited number of kite kits will be available free of charge complete with instructions, allowing everyone to get involved. Day visitors pay Dhs 150 per adult and Dhs 100 per child, including water taxi, island transportation, barbeque and non-alcoholic beverages. For registration, entry rules and more information, email kitefest.sirbaniyas@anantara.com.
