Name: Lina Beidas
Nationality: Palestinian Canadian

How would you describe your teaching style?

I tend to focus on learning through play and various activities in a student-centered environment that facilitates collaboration as well independent learning. It is extremely important for children to take ownership of their learning and academic exploration as it helps build confidence and gives them a sense of independence.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

When I first moved to Canada as a child, my greatest supporter was my first teacher. She always encouraged me to be the best I could be and was extremely patient with me as I could barely communicate in English. That experience helped shape my perception of the world and inspired me to hopefully do the same in my own life for my own students.

Your best moment as a teacher?

During a fun science activity, one of the students that had previously hated coming to school came up to me and suddenly started tearing up. When I questioned what had happened, she looked up at me and said, “Please don’t ever leave, I love you!” It absolutely melted my heart!

One sentence of advice to parents?

Patience is your greatest asset!

One sentence of advice to someone wanting to enter the profession?

Teaching is not just a profession; it is a calling. If one does not have the patience and passion to work with children from diverse backgrounds, with different interests and needs, then teaching may not be for you!

What would be your life quote?

Practice what you preach.

Lina Beidas is a nursery teacher at Milestones Nursery.
