Dress your nest for Christmas

‘Tis the season to be jolly, but it can also be a busy and stressful time. You’re running around buying gifts and entertaining relatives while surrounded by mountains of wrapping paper. Ensure your home is ready to embrace the Festive Season and take the stress out of getting your home Christmas-ready with these handy tips.

Oh Christmas tree…

Nothing beats the sight of a lit Christmas tree, but it can be tough to get right. Follow these tips to ensure that your Christmas is only bright, but also safe.

  • Remember to measure out where you will be putting your tree before purchasing it - and make sure you are able to fit it through the door.
  • Don’t put your tree too close to an AC vent or open flames, such as candles, or anywhere it will be knocked or damaged.
  • Do put the tree near a socket and ensure any wiring is not left out in the open where people could trip over it.

Light up your house this Christmas

As always, all electrical decorations must be handled with caution and preparation when putting up Christmas lights is key.

  • Always buy your Christmas tree lights from a reputable seller. Defective lights have been responsible for property fires and electrocutions.
  • Start early with your lights. They can take time to get right and if there are any issues, they can be smoothed out before your visitors arrive.
  • Get ready with extension cords and any hooks and hangers you require.
  • Untangle your lights and test before you hang.
  • Make sure to turn the lights off at night or when you leave your property.
  • If you are unsure about anything, call a qualified electrician. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Make your house sparkle

You want to be proud of your home as you welcome guests, so spruce up your living space.

  • Take the opportunity to deep clean the house and make it look shiny and new.
  • Paint over any cracks or cover up any scuffs on the walls - this is usually easiest to do by painting entire wall panels to ensure a good colour match.
  • Go ahead and hang up those pictures, wall hangings and ceiling lights - call in an expert if you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, especially with the bigger items

Have an energy-efficient Christmas

The Festive Season can be a big strain on energy proving costly not only for you, but for the environment too. Invest in the following energy saving tips and see a big difference:

  • Install energy savings bulbs throughout your property. Not only do they use 70% less energy but they also emit 75 to 90% less heat - helping your house to stay cool.
  • Make sure your AC is working efficiently - have it serviced and cleaned by a trusted maintenance company.
  • Turn all appliances off when not in use.
