Spring spruce up

Spring is the perfect time to look at your space with fresh eyes. It doesn’t need to cost a lot, it simply requires a little effort and a bit of creativity to lighten, brighten and freshen things up. Think small change, big impact!

Make some space

Clutter always makes a space feel smaller, as if the walls are closing in on you. So get rid of that rubbish. The old adage is true - less really is more. Empty the room first and clean it thoroughly before bringing things back in. Decide what stays and what goes. Anything you don’t need can be sold or donated to charity. Invest in some clever storage solutions; a vintage style trunk or modern chest, shelves, pretty rattan baskets. Remember don’t just think horizontal, a high vertical space looks great with a really tall bookcase or shelf unit climbing the wall. Keep table tops clear of clutter so they are more relaxing to the eye.

A lick of paint

Nothing changes the feel and look of a room faster than a fresh coat of paint. If you decide to go for a completely new colour get some samples and put them up in the room for a few days first, it will give you the opportunity to see if you like the new colour in different lights like a bright sunny morning, midday, or in the evening with the lamps on. You can paint the whole room or try it as a feature wall on just one. Make sure you keep a pot for touch-ups or in case you change your mind and decide to paint the rest of the room.

Lighting

Better lighting is another quick way of changing the look and feel of a room immediately. Add a table lamp or a funky floor lamp, invest in new overhead lighting or simply switch the bulbs in your current lighting. Replace standard bulbs with energy efficient and look for bulbs with a soft pink, cream or gold bulb for a warmer glow. With what seems like hundreds of lighting shops, Dragon Mart is the perfect place to pick up a bargain!
