How Do I Know If I Need Orthodontic Treatment?

You may be concerned about the bite or alignment of your teeth, even if they seem straight, you could experience discomfort or pain when you chew.

Here are some of the most common reasons why I believe patients may need a professional evaluation from an orthodontist:

  • Aesthetics and Confidence – if you are embarrassed about your smile due to crowding, protrusion or spacing, you may want to consider orthodontics to re-gain the confident, radiant you.
  • Orthodontic Relapse – when teeth have slowly fallen out of alignment after previous orthodontic treatment, usually when retainers were not worn diligently, you may need to re-align teeth to keep them from shifting.
  • Pain, Tooth Decay or Gum Disease – tight spaces between teeth can cause a build-up of plaque leading to more serious problems. Proper spacing will allow you to brush and floss these areas properly.
  • Early Treatment – Many orthodontic problems in both adults and children can now be treated with Invisalign® clear aligners which makes the process easier than ever before.  The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children are assessed between 7 and 9 in order to evaluate if there will be any problems and solve them before any issues arise.

To learn more about whether orthodontic treatment is right for you or your child, contact us to schedule a consultation appointment. We can then develop an orthodontic plan for you based on diagnostic tools that include a full medical and dental health history, a clinical exam and special X-rays and photographs to customise treatment specifically to your needs and desires.
