REVIEW: Kim’s Singapore Seafood At Al Seef

With so many options to eat out in Dubai and so many different cuisines on offer, it is difficult to imagine something new and different to come along and try to make an impact on this very diverse and complete dining scene. And just when you think we have got it all, up pops a little unexpected surprise.

Kim’s Singapore Seafood is the Dubai restaurant spun off from the well-known and long established Kim’s Place in the heart of Singapore. Established for some 60 years the different dishes and tastes developed over time are now available in the recently opened restaurant.

Set in the heart of the Al Seef promenade, the restaurant has seating for over 160 people across a large dining area, a relaxed bar area, and a wide terrace with stunning views overlooking the Creek and across over to Deira. The menu includes a good selection of appetisers and soups to start with, extensive fish and shellfish choices, beef and chicken dishes and some good vegetarian options.

We started with a bowl of golden pumpkin soup with prawn and crabmeat and a portion of fried clams with sambal. Even though it was a hot summer evening, the soup was a welcome start, nice and thick and with a perfect amount of shredded crabmeat and prawns. The clams were a good sized portion, wok fried and in a sambal sauce that had a very nice kick to it.

Our main of black pepper crab in hot pot was a stand out dish. Presented as a whole crab, already cut into portions in a thick black pepper sauce. Accompanying the dish were some small mantou, served piping hot, which were very tasty by themselves, but totally irresistible when dipping in the black pepper sauce.

To finish we shared a creatively presented and very refreshing lemongrass jelly with lemon sorbet.

Kim’s Singapore Seafood is sure to be a hit with residents and tourists alike. A great location for sundowners after a day spent on the Creek, or an evening out for that special occasion, this is surely one of the go to places at Al Seef.

Expect to pay around Dhs 180 per person for a 3 course meal not including drinks. For reservations call 04-3708288.
