Saeed Al Gergawi is the guest speaker at this month’s Café Scientifique Dubai meet-up and he discusses space exploration in the UAE at the café’s first event of the season.
Founder, Rohan Roberts says “The UAE is taking huge steps in space exploration. We’ve got the 40 million Thuraya Astronomy Centre and Observatory set to open in Mushrif Park; the Emirates Mars Mission Orbiter is set to arrive at Mars in 2021; and Virgin Galactic in Abu Dhabi, undeterred by its recent challenges, is still working towards its 2016 goal of sending tourists to space.”
He continues, “The Mohammed Bin Rashed Space Centre has an entire team made up entirely of Emirati engineers developing KhalifaSat, the UAE’s most technologically advanced imaging satellite. We’re delighted to have Saeed Al Gergawi, who is part of the UAE Mars Mission strategic planning team, to tell us more about this and the steps the UAE is taking in space exploration.”
Saeed is a specialist in the sciences of the future and space at the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology. As part of the UAE Mars Mission strategic planning team, he is in charge of education and media outreach. He works with universities on developing space science, technology and engineering research initiatives that will not only help the Mars mission but make sure that the UAE will have excellent capabilities for future missions. Saeed, who studied management in the US at Eastern Michigan University, is a writer and a columnist for the Gulf News with a focused interest in the fields of Science, Technology and Futurology.
