Dubai's Carbon Emissions Are Decreasing Thanks to Dubai Metro

The increased usage of Dubai Metro is doing wonders for the environment. The reduction of carbon emissions has reached up to 943 tonnes every day due to residents swapping from cars to the use of public transport.

Dubai Metro has helped reduce 341,000 tonnes of carbon emissions in 2017. According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) this is enough to light up 46,000 homes for an entire year.

1 November marks the ninth Public Transport Day in the region, in which residents are encouraged to use public transport rather than personal vehicles. The RTA has stated that, "The initiative aims at enhancing the role of Dubai in supporting efforts to improve the environment. And to promote sustainable development, encourage people to use mass transit methods, raise the percentage of their users through awareness of public transport privileges, and promote the modern mass transport system provided by the Authority, which includes the Dubai Metro and Tram Dubai, public transport."
