After completing his third mountain climb this year, Ahmed Zein Al Yafei has flown the flag for the Year of Zayed. Al Yafei reached new heights by climbing the highest peak in Europe - Mount Elbrus. The airport security officer with Dubai Police scaled a whopping 5,642 metres after a six-day trek. Al Yafei battled the elements with snowstorms and the high-altitude oxygen levels. "The journey lasted six days. The biggest challenge was a storm on the fourth day, due to which our team had to resort to a cave. Another challenge was avalanches that happened as we neared the summit. Other difficulties - normal to mountain climbers - include lack of oxygen, low atmospheric pressure causing us to feel tired and minus degree temperatures which freezes drinking water," he said.

The officer has already tackled Oman's highest mountain, Jebel Shams and Africa's highest mountainous challenge, Mount Kilimanjaro.
