The story of the British tourist who racked up Dhs 170,000 in fines has come to a close. The driver, Farah Hashi, has paid off Dhs 117,000 in fines at the Dubai Traffic Police Headquarters on Thursday morning. In the four hour stint, from 2.31am to 6.25am, Hashi was issued 35 fines in total. Hashi received a discount of Dhs 50,000 due to the cooperation from the British Embassy and Dubai Traffic Police.

According to Hashi, due to sharing a mutual friend with the owner of the Lamborghini, there was no formal contract in place regarding the rental, despite the company claiming that there was. The Brit has taken full responsibility for the fines and says that at the time, he did not see the cameras flashing. Friends and family in his hometown in Wales gathered the finances required to pay the fines. As of yet, there has been no statement on whether Farah Hashi will remain in the UAE or return to the UK.
