14-year-old taken to the hospital after she developed addiction from playing violent video games

14-year-old girl gets addicted to violent video games to the extent that she started exhibiting anger and bad behaviour.

Due to incessant playing, violence in virtual reality impacted her personality and she started to play out the scenarios in real life, leading her to even waved a knife at her father.

Distressed with her odd behaviour, the parents decided to take her to the hospital for psychological assessment and treatment, and examining the sensitivity of the case, the hospital contacted Dubai Police.

Under their supervision, the girl received psychological counselling and was advised not to play violent video games.

The sessions also educated her on the negative impact of violence. The parents were a part of the rehabilitation as they got guidance on the most proficient method to help her.

After few sessions, the girl started to react positively to the help.

Dubai Police urged parents to be fully attentive to their children’s activities and ban them from playing violent video games.

“Children and teenagers these days are connected to the internet all the time and the internet has much material which can affect their mentality. Parents shouldn’t neglect their children’s interests and should always advise them on what is good and bad for them in video games and on the internet,” Lt. Col. Al Felasi said.
