Review: Plantation at Sofitel Jumeirah Beach

Plantation restaurant and terrace has a relaxed atmosphere and an elegant decor to go with it. Try nourishing and authentic dishes prepared and served in cast iron pots, known as “cassolette” in French. Think of delicious slow-cooked meals like those that used to simmer on the stove at home.

What we ate

We started with the Carpaccio, which is pepper marinated Black Angus beef tenderloin, quail eggs, Parmesan crisp, rocket and truffle olive oil dressing, and the goats’ cheese salad, which is St. Maure cheese gratinated on rosemary focaccia croutons, poached baby pears, dried figs, roasted pine nuts, mesclun salad in vinaigrette dressing. For the main, we had been recommended to try one of the cassolettes du terroir so we choose the Daube - traditional wagyu beef stew, steamed baby potatoes and mushrooms, and haricot de muton, which is New Zealand braised lamb shank, white beans and rosemary olive oil. Finally for dessert, my husband went for the cheese trolley but I simply could not manage another thing!

Verdict

The food was lovely! We can highly recommend the cassolettes; they were beautifully cooked and were so satisfying.
